Musei Vaticani

A visit to the Musei Vaticani is an experience of entering one of the most rich and significant museum complexes in the world, where history, art and faith intertwine in a unique manner. The Museums are distributed throughout an enormous web of galleries, courtyards, and corridors; they are a treasure trove of collections over thousands of years old, with visitors experiencing a profound and exciting exploration of human ingenuity and religious piety. One step further brings new masterpieces, Roman Greco sculptures, ancient Egyptian artifacts, and the elegant beauty of the Renaissance and Baroque art.

The feeling of scale and variety is immediately evident as you pass through the galleries. The Galleria di mappe is fascinating because it shows the entire geography of Italy in its detailed and colorful representations as they were imagined centuries ago, and turns geography into art. The Camere Raphael are close by with their colourful displays, harmonious composition, and unbelievable technical ability, hosting some of the best frescoes ever painted. Previously the uses of these rooms were those of popes and are now a strong reservoir of artistic genius and intellectual aspiration.
